The Asian Apple rumor site Digitimes claims that the 7.85” version of the iPad will have a thinner bezel than the new iPad. Digitimes claims that they have received this information from sources that are involved in the production process of Apple devices. By creating a thinner bezel for the 7.85” iPad, Apple can utilize this space with a larger display. There have been rumors about a possible 7.85” inch iPad in the past, but nothing came through.
During the new iPad and third-generation Apple TV announcement some expected that Apple would also announce a 7.85” inch iPad, but nothing other than the new iPad and Apple TV were announced. It is therefore unclear whether we will see the 7.85 inch iPad this year or not, Apple continued the iPad 2, which was surprising because many expected that Apple would introduce the 7.85” iPad as their entry-level tablet.
Digitimes claims that it has sources that are working at companies that are creating products in China. This would be one of the reasons that they are pretty quick at discovering new products, although they have been proved wrong many times in the last couple of months. This problem can be caused by either the trustworthiness of the sources or Apple that is making last minute changes. Apple normally confirms the final design only a few weeks before the product announcement.
