With the launch of iOS 5, Apple introduced several new cloud services like iCloud, PhotoStream and iTunes Connect. PhotoStream allows you to automatically upload photos to the cloud and synchronize them with other Apple devices or Windows PC’s. Many users however dislike the fact that the photos are being uploaded automatically and many don’t know that it is possible to upload the photos manually to your PhotoStream.
For those that want to make use of PhotoStream but don’t like the automatic upload option, use the following settings in iPhoto.
iPhoto ▸ Preferences ▸ Photo Stream ▸ Uncheck ‘Automatic Upload’.
When you want to add a certain photo to your PhotoStream, simply start dragging the photo to the left column and the tab ‘Photo Stream’. The application will now automatically start uploading the photo to your Photo Stream and the photo will get a small icon to indicate that it is uploaded.
It can happen that the photo will not appear at the end of your PhotoStream, this is because the photos are being sorted on the date that the photo is taken and not on the date that the photo is uploaded.
