Facebook users may have recently noticed that a number of changes have occurred within the social network. It is now much easier to tag a friend in a message, and you can now filter status updates for a specific message. They now also updated the Facebook application for the iPhone, adding these new functions to the mobile application. But that’s not all, the update has even more in store for us.
When writing a message, you now also find a button above the keyboard to add a tag. While pressing this button, you can browse through your friends list and select people that you want to tag. They will receive a notification when their name is being by someone else in a message, making it easier to show them a specific message. Tagging however isn’t new on Facebook, and works in a similar way as the @ command on Twitter. It was however quite annoying to use tags in the iPhone application. These problems are now solved with the new update.
Another new feature is the possibility to start filtering your friends, this was already possible but the function is more prominent and improved. The right button in the toolbar allows you to select different groups that you have created from your friends list. The new social network Google+ focuses on filtering specific content for followers, which may be the reason for this new feature.
There are also several minor improvements. The appearance of the profile and group pages has changed, and it is now possible to share something within the web browser of the application. A number of bug have been fixed, among other improvements to the chat function, and the notification bar doesn’t suddenly disappear. The full change log can be found on the download site of the App Store.
